The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Black Hawk County provides free classes, educational presentations, and support groups to provide a caring, supportive environment. Along with one staff member, who is a family member as well as a licensed social worker, the facilitators for our classes and support groups are trained volunteer family members or people in recovery who have lived experience with their illness. In addition to classes, educational presentations, and support groups that you see listed, we also offer individual help and support. The executive director works one-on-one with people who contact the agency. She discusses issues, provides guidance, offers support, answers questions, and makes referrals.
