Richard Connelly is a Maine Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). He is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. He is trained in the use of EMDR, having completed both EMDR I and II training. He also is trained in the use or Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) for processing of traumatic incidents. These modalities, along with other therapy techniques, help clients process and heal following damage from PTSD and/or other traumatic incidents or memories. EMDR is also used successfully with other mental health disorders. Rich has worked with many formerly suffering clients who struggle as victims or witnesses to sexual assault, domestic violence, (either as a witness to repeated incidents growing up, or as children or adults directly suffering injury themselves), child abuse and neglect, accidents, crime victims, traumatic medical emergencies or deaths, combat related traumatic memories, and public safety related trauma and compassion fatigue. EMDR is also effective with so-called small T traumas that can be causes of such symptoms as anxiety, sleeplessness, and avoidance habits.  Rich is a former fire fighter, EMT, and police officer and understands first hand the difficult realities that emergency personnel and the military are exposed to. Therapies such as EMDR and TIR can help clients  work through sometimes long-standing and crippling former intrusive symptoms towards freedom. This can  help them to handle or overcome their symptoms, avoid triggering and put them in charge of their memories, (instead of the other way around). It helps them get themselves back on track, and to be finally free to enjoy life again and face challenges that life brings without the baggage of the past. Rich integrates his professional training (Masters in Mental Health Counseling) with a biblical worldview. He is experienced in working with clients in a broad spectrum of presenting issues ranging from marriage and relationship issues, coaching with change and life’s struggles, to more serious mental health disorders, substance and sexual abuse issues and traumatic experiences. Rich does works with clients age 8 and up and which, of course, includes adults that were victims as children. Currently, Rich accepts  Anthem Behavioral Health, BC/BS, Ambetter, UBH/ Harvard Pilgrim/PacifiCare, Optum Insurance, Maine Community Health Options (MCHO), and Cigna/ Evernorth insurances. NH Medicaid via New Hampshire Healthy Families/Centpatico/Ambetter also accepted. Rich accepts payments via most major credit cards, by check, or in cash.
